Last month my dear neighbour's daughter died of leukemia. I was totally shocked as she seemed to be an active girl. Always running and riding her bycyle. Sometimes with my son. She looked energetic, like no disease obstructed her to do so. but last 3 months her mother just got to know that she was having leukimia after having along bout of fever. First it was thought to be dengue, but it's not. Her white cells reading is high, and she was diagnosed with leukimia. I told my GP of the sudden death, and the doctor it might be CML type which is very fierce. The parents chose not to do the chemo. I don't why. I can make any opinion in their judgement.
However today, I was reading the forum, and I found out another active boy was diagnosed with leukimia too. And the parents also reluctant to start chemo too. To them chemo is something scary, more frightening than the cancer itself, I thought. But to my opinion many Malay parents are not aware of to, to find second opinion or to seek knowledge about the option of treatments of cancer. I am sad with situation, but I've tried to reach for some people who wants to listen to.
I've got a few cancer survivors around me. My closed friend, got breast cancer, stage 3. She was down when she found about it. The 1st surgeon just want to give her an operation. But the other surgeon and oncologist insisted on chemo to shrink the cell before performing a surgery. And yes. Alhamdulillah. after a long patience, she's free of the bad cells. To me the cancer sufferers who soon to be the survivors are the fighter of their own class!
